Which Holiday Monster Are You? – Hotel Transylvania 3

Holidays are fun and something we all look forward to. BUT they can be super stressful. I can’t be the only person who sometimes feels like they need a holiday after their holiday, can I?! I mean, all that lugging bags around, transfers, delays, sweltering heat, and humidity can really frazzle the nerves and turn you into a bit of a monster. After much experimentation and many trips I’ve discovered that there are several very distinct types of holiday monsters (SCIENCE!!). But which one are you? Well, I’ve joined forces with Sony Pictures to celebrate the release of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and help you discover your inner holiday monster.

Which Holiday Monster Are You?

Are you a vampire or a blob?!

The Werewolf

Does the humidity turn you into a frizzy, poofy mess? Do you end up with horrible matted knots in your hair the minute there’s any hint of heat or sweat?! Does the heat make you super irritated and want to attack anyone around you? Then you fall into the category of WEREWOLF. Werewolves, being pack monsters, tend to prefer group travel with family or friends. If you’re a werewolf you have an excellent sense of smell, you could sniff out the steak at that all inclusive buffet from miles away. You’re full of energy, always up to try out a new activity or sport, but equally love a nap in the hotel room. You may or may not have a rowdy brood of pups/children that leave you frazzled and dog-tired, just like Wayne from Hotel Transylvania, making it hard for you to enjoy any down time on a family holiday.

Recommended Destination – Let’s be honest, you’re probably better suited to a cold holiday or at least somewhere more temperate. Try Autumn/Winter holidays with lots of outdoors activities and great meaty food. Alaska or Scandinavia are my picks for a werewolf.

The Vampire

I reckon a lot of us Irish will fall into this category. Vampires usually have extremely pale skin that does NOT react well to sun. Factor 50 is NOT enough for vampires, you nearly need to resort to completely avoiding sunlight altogether. Vampires are often picky eaters. You won’t catch them dining on local delicacies, they’ll stick to their home favourites like crisp sandwiches, chips and pizza. If you’re a vampire you’re definitely a night owl who loves to spend time at the hotel bar or checking out local clubs, but God help whoever tries to wake you up in the morning – it’s like trying to wake the dead!

Recommended Destination – Popular vampire hot spots include Seattle and Transylvania. But if you want to try somewhere different, how about the Norwegian territory of Svalbard in the Arctic Circle?! From November to January Svalbard experiences almost no sunlight with nearly 24 hours of “night” each day.

The Mummy

Suffer from dry skin while travelling? Tend to be a bit accident prone? LOVE sandy destinations? Then you’ve got to be a Mummy! Mummies tend to be old souls and may feel like they’ve been to a destination before despite visiting for the first time. A Mummy doesn’t like to show too much skin, they prefer light airy clothes while travelling. No skimpy hot pants or belly tops here. If you’re a Mummy you prefer to keep everything under wraps. You’re kind of old-fashioned like that. The only downside is that you do have a tendency to come unraveled at the slightest hiccup in your holiday plans.

Recommended destination – The Middle East or Egypt are perfect for a Mummy. Or, if you want something a little more tropical then the Caribbean would work too. Basically anywhere hot and sandy!

Zombie

Get hangry a lot? Not a big talker? A little bit dead inside? Then you might just be a zombie. Jet-lag really gets to you. You end up sleeping at unusual times, yawning a lot and generally appearing a bit dead on your feet. You’re not a fast mover, you prefer a slow paced holiday with lots of chill time. Food is your biggest motivator in life so you’re all about holiday destinations known for their food like Italy or Mexico. You’d try anything once, from scorpions to brains!

Recommended destination – All inclusive resorts and cruises ensure that food is available to you 24/7 and that you’ll have plenty of chill time. However, make sure to take a local food tour too when you can!

The Invisibles are holiday ready.

The Blob

Do you tend to melt into a puddle in the heat? Have you given up on dieting and just decided to embrace your own God-given beach body? Then you are just like Blobby, the Blob monster. You suffer from motion sickness on pretty much any form of transportation, but particularly on boats.  You make a great holiday companion because you’re completely transparent. There’s no secrets when it comes to you! You never actually say much but everyone loves you and you’re always up for an adventure.

Recommended Destination – Anywhere that doesn’t involve a boat. Try somewhere landlocked like Austria!

Frankenstein’s Monster

Frankenstein’s Monster is usually misunderstood and feels like a bit of an outcast. If you fall into this category you prefer solo travel because you are comfortable spending long periods of time alone. However, you also crave company, so you sometimes stay in a hostel or join a tour group to make new friends and get a bit of social interaction. You can be a bit sensitive and always notice the beauty of your surroundings when travelling. A lot of Frankenstein’s Monsters struggle with self identity and go travelling to find out who they really are. Strangely this type of monster tends to have a serious fear of fire which means you won’t catch them watching fire poi on the beach in Thailand. They also try to avoid flying as much as possible, opting for other modes of transport like boat, car, train etc.

Recommended Destination – Ideally nowhere that suffers from forest fires or has a fondness for bonfires. But otherwise the whole world is your oyster and you should explore it to find what you’re looking for.

Invisible Man/Woman

The Invisible Man/Woman is the kind of holiday monster that seems to disappear every time someone mentions a family holiday photo. If you’re an Invisible Man/Woman you’re usually not interested in being the centre of attention and prefer to be the one taking the photos. However, you LOVE a good prank. You’re always trying to get the best of your travel companions in one way or another whether it’s cling film across an open door or just hiding and scaring the life out of them in the hotel room. You’re most likely to get annoyed about the fact that no one noticed that you got you hair and nails done especially for the trip.

Recommended Destination – Carnival in Rio where you can blend into the crowd if you want, but you can get dressed up and stand out too when you get sick of being a wallflower.

Hotel Transylvania 3 – Summer Vacation

OK, so now that you know which holiday monster you are you need to get yourself to the cinema to catch the latest installment of Sony Pictures’ Hotel Transylvania, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. In the movie we join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans. But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind. If the last two Hotel Transylvania movies are anything to go by it’s going to be absolutely hilarious! If you haven’t seen any of the Hotel Transylvania movies I highly recommend watching the first too, they’re so much fun for adults and kids alike. The characters are voiced by some amazing people like Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Adam Sandler and FRAN DRESCHER!!

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation is in cinemas across Ireland from July 27th.
