Time for a Travel Confession

I have a travel confession to make:

I’ve lived in Massachusetts nearly all my life, and I have never been to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard.  Not ever.

Hell, I’ve barely even been to the Cape!

I have no excuse.  It’s incredibly easy to get to the Vineyard from Boston.

Some say it’s a North/South thing.  I grew up 20 minutes north of Boston, and my fellow Massholes and I  joke that the North Shore and the South Shore might as well be different countries!  People from the North don’t go South, and vice versa.

Northerners stick to the beautiful beaches of Gloucester, Ipswich and Plum Island, while the South Shore crowd heads for the Cape.  Personally, my family chose lakes over oceans and stuck to New Hampshire.

Both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are home to gorgeous beaches, wonderful views and cute towns.  Nantucket is incredibly high-end; Martha’s Vineyard is upscale but more affordable.  While both are billed as family destinations, my friends have told me quite a few scandalous stories from the nightlife scene on each island!

Every summer, I tell myself that this will be the year that I finally make it to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket.  But I don’t even know if I can make it happen this year — I’m currently in super-travel-saving-mode, sacking away two-thirds of my salary for the next big adventure (and many of you now know what that is!).

It probably won’t happen this summer.  But I will make it to the islands someday.

So, what’s your travel confession?
